Getting Around Victoria

Downtown Victoria is infinitely walkable but if you're looking to go further afield, the easiest and cheapest way is by city bus.

All about Buses

There are only two fare zones in Victoria; The zone boundaries to the north are Sayward Road at Pat Bay Highway, and Beaver Lake Road and West Saanich Road. To the west the boundary is Highway 1A and Dukrill Road or Highway 1 west of Thetis interchange.

Fares

The cost for travel in One Zone is $2.25 and through Two Zones is $3.00. Exact change is required. A Day Pass (all zones)is $7.00 and Monthly Pass (all zones) is $73.25. They als offer Youth and Student discount passes.

Bus passes are available at most 7/11 and convenience stores.

If you have a bike, you can take it on the bus and save tons of time. Give BC Transit a call at 382-6161 and ask them about how to get somewhere using bikes and buses. It's fast!

Taxi Cabs

Need a ride late at night? Too exhausted to face yet another bus ride? Taking a cab in downtown Victoria is seldom very pricey and can be very practical. However if you are going a fair distance, do your wallet a favour and take the bus.

The three main cab companies in Victoria are:

Victoria Taxi- (383 -7111)

Accept Interac.

Empress Taxi - (381-2222)

Some of their car's are electric but it's cash only.

Bluebird Cabs (382 4235)

Some of their car's are electric and they accept Interac.

Note: Between 1:30am - 3am on Friday and Saturday nights, it can be damned near impossible to get a cab in this town, so be prepared to wait or to walk.

Want to take a cab to the airport or Swartz Bay (ferry terminal)?

It's worth grabbing the yellow pages (ask Front Desk for a copy) and making a few calls to find a discounted rate. But most cab companys offer $45.00 to the airport and $55.00 to Swartz Bay.
